Patented Piperine Extract Deemed Safe For Use in Foods and Beverages
Sabinsa Corporation received Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status for its popular patented bioavailability enhancement ingredient BioPerine® – black pepper extract, after a comprehensive review of safety and toxicology data by an independent panel of scientists with international repute assembled by Soni & Associates, Inc.
Self-affirmed GRAS status allows manufacturers additional freedom to add BioPerine® in a variety of foods and beverages ranging from baked goods to milk products, breakfast cereals, cheese, egg products, processed vegetables, soft candy, soups, snack foods, non-alcoholic beverages, imitation dairy products, hard candy, chewing gum, granulated sugar, and even seasonings & flavors.

The self affirmed GRAS monograph suggests maximum use levels of BioPerine® of up to 15ppm (15 mg/kg) in specific foods, with the 90th percentile estimated intake of 13.32 mg of BioPerine® per person per day, as the safe level for food use and intake.
BioPerine® enhances the body’s natural thermogenic activity, which plays an integral role in utilizing the daily food and nutrients that the human body consumes. It has been studied for enhanced nutritional gut absorption in the following categories: herbal extracts, water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids, and minerals.
BioPerine®, a 98% pure piperine extract, has been the subject of numerous scientific studies, many published in reputable journals.
